AI: a potential healthcare game-changer?

Is AI destined to revolutionise an industry, increasingly struggling under the weight of an ageing population and overwhelming rates of chronic disease?  We asked Tim Dawes, researcher at Imperial College London MRC London Institute of Medical Sciences (LMS) and Professor Sir Peng Khaw, Director of the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Biomedical Research Centre for Ophthalmology at Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, what they thought.

Cybersecurity: Is your patient’s data safe?

Until recently, most of the headlines on healthcare cyber-attacks emanated from the US, but now, as reports Piers Ford in a piece in HIMSS Insights this season, they are becoming more prevalent on this side of the Atlantic too. Ransomware and malware attacks like this one on England’s largest healthcare trust, are now so frequent that they have become almost commonplace.

How do we ensure the security of our IT systems and the data held within them? We asked Jyoti Choudrie, a Professor of Information Systems at Hertfordshire Business School and Derrick Bates, Information & Cyber Security Officer for the North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust, both of whom spoke at a cybersecurity summit in London earlier this month, what the industry can do to steel itself from this onslaught from outside.
