'mHealth, cybersecurity, and more in store at WoHIT!'

(HealthTech Wire / Interview) – At this year’s World of Health IT, which will be launched in its new format and as a stand-alone event, we really want to ensure we are addressing everyone’s needs and interests within the healthcare IT ecosystem. The industry has so many traits to it and is developing at such an astonishing pace that we often oversee some of its aspects. That’s why I think it is important for us to highlight the optional events we will be hosting at WoHIT, some of which will be co-hosted with leading partners in the industry.

Quite apart from offering specialised tracks within our conference programme; mHealth, Genomics, Cybersecurity and a track for CIOs, we also want to offer a variety of workshops, hospital visits, competitions and pitches to ensure we are using this platform to the best of our ability to give everyone a voice.

The hospital tours, for instance, will be unique in that both of the local hospitals who have agreed to host an exclusive visit for WoHIT attendees are renowned for their specialisation both at a national and international level. The Hospital Clínic will focus its tour on their Clinical Diagnostic Imaging Centre (CDIC), which carries out research in the fields of radiography and nuclear medicine. The Hospital San Joan de Deu is renowned for its paediatrics Europe-wide and will focus on maternity and child care. The offering of these tours is essential to all our audiences: from high level professionals to front line hospital workers, everybody will be learning from a recognised hospital and will take valuable knowledge back to their own workspace.

In addition, different initiatives for the younger entrepreneurial audience will also be organised during WoHIT. IT professionals, programmers, developers and students will all be invited to join a Health Hackathon Competition on the 20th November. These young professionals will be challenged to find new solutions to challenges within health IT and they will also be recognised for the absolutely essential role they play within the industry. And to address our young suppliers, during the eHealth Network, on the 22nd November, they will get the chance to pitch their product to a room full of top international CIOs.

We will also be launching our new HIMSS Europe Community at WoHIT: Women in HIT. We want to value the contributions of women to the health and care industry. To kick the community off in Barcelona, a group of the top European women in HIT will be presenting the outcomes of a gender-focused survey and interacting with the audiences about experiences, challenges and achievements. The meeting is open to women AND men from the whole healthcare ecosystem.

So whether you are a young entrepreneur and want to learn or pitch your ideas or you are an experienced veteran in the health IT sector and want to share your knowledge and network with like-minded people, we probably have something in store which you will like to be a part of! See our website for regular updates and remember registration is now live. We hope to welcome you in Barcelona this fall.
