TALLINN, ESTONIA - (HealthTech Wire / News) - The eHealth Tallinn 2017 conference will offer a number of sessions, including: better access to people’s personal health data and control over its use, the cross-border free movement of health data, its use in research and development activities, as well as creating the conditions for a digital single market in the field of healthcare. For more information about the programme please visit the eHealth Tallinn 2017 website.

The conference will focus on three primary tracks:

‘Citizen, Professional, Society’ will focus on the impact that a digital transformation of healthcare systems could have on society as a whole, from the perspective of users or professionals – and vice-versa. It will also examine what a European digital society expects from its healthcare systems in the 21st century.

Ain Aaviksoo, Deputy Secretary General of E-services Development and Innovation said: “Digital solutions provide people better opportunities for taking care of their health and help health professionals to improve the quality of treatment. Each person should have the right to easily access their own personal health data and decide how this data is used, including an option to allow or limit secure sharing for the use of different e-services. To have full control over their health, citizens must have control over their health data too.”

‘Digital Infrastructure, Data & Technology’ will showcase the most advanced technologies of today, such as artificial intelligence and machine learning, blockchains, virtual reality, etc., and their benefits for health and social care. Success stories will explain the essential factors of good implementation.

Stephen Bryant, Managing Director at HIMSS Europe said: “The ‘Digital Infrastructure, Data and Technology’ track aims to address the topics that will define the future of healthcare. Session topics within this track represent the true game changers we are facing in the sector, ranging from blockchain healthcare and artificial intelligence to virtual reality, amongst others. We look forward to gathering a high-level range of health and care professionals in this setting to discuss a strategic roadmap to achieve a Digital Health Society, which will no doubt be exemplary for the rest of Europe and beyond.”

‘The Enabling Environment’ will provide an opportunity for discussions around enablers, the context and measures that allow the Digital Health Society (DHS) to grow in Europe.

Brian O’Connor, Chair of the ECHAlliance said: “More than 100 organisations representing policy-makers, healthcare professionals and managers, companies, startups, researchers, insurers and mutual funds are working together to implement digital health and make the DHS real. The conference sessions will reflect this multi-stakeholder group and the need to act together. We look forward to this gathering in order to connect doers together!"

A large part of the content of this event is supported by the DHS initiative launched by the Ministry of Social Affairs of Estonia and the ECHAlliance. A Declaration (open to consultation) calling EU players to act on the current main challenges to digital health deployment will be co-signed during the conference.
