St Jansdal Hospital joins elite group of hospitals in the Netherlands to achieve HIMSS Analytics EMRAM Stage 6.
The EMR Adoption Model (EMRAM) is an eight stage system that measures digital maturity in a hospital, with 0 the lowest and Stage 7 the highest level.
Relinde Weil, CEO at Ziekenhuis St Jansdal Hospital said, “We are very proud to have been awarded EMRAM Stage 6, especially such a short time after going live with a new medical record system. HARDERWIJK, THE NETHERLANDS - (HealthTech Wire / News) — St Jansdal Hospital in the Netherlands has been awarded EMRAM Stage 6 by HIMSS Analytics Europe. The hospital joins six other Dutch hospitals that are currently on EMRAM Stage 6, with St Jansdal now being number seven to having achieved this prestigious status of Electronic Medical Records Maturity.
St Jansdal, a 341-bed regional hospital with about 1,850 employees, has installed the EPIC medical record system and only went live with the system in October last year.
Relinde Weil, CEO at Ziekenhuis St Jansdal Hospital said, “We are very proud to have been awarded EMRAM Stage 6, especially such a short time after going live with a new medical record system. The award is recognition of the dedication and hard work of everyone in the hospital that has ensured that we are doing well with our digitisation-ambition.
“We could also not have achieved this without the vision and support of the hospital board, management and medical staff that have embraced digital transformation as a key strategic goal for achieving medical excellence. Our transformation programme will continue and we hope to progress even further to Stage 7 later this year. Digitisation is essential for us in improving the quality of care, patient satisfaction and efficiency and enabling us to stay competitive in a difficult environment.”
Stage 7 ambitions
Jörg Studzinski, Director for Research and Advisory Services at HIMSS Analytics, said, “Ziekenhuis St Jansdal Hospital has made remarkable progress to achieve all the functionality required of EMRAM Stage 6 with their newly installed system. We were extremely impressed with the dedication and motivation of the team that is driving the digitisation project and the vision of the hospital management and medical staff to embrace digitisation in order to improve quality of care and patient safety.
The hospital has worked very hard and has now been recognised with the Stage 6 Award. It even has the clear ambition to achieve EMRAM Stage 7, which indicates the most advanced level of IT Maturity, later in the year. Their digitisation-ambition is one of the key elements for them to succeed in an environment of an ageing population and limited opportunities to receive more funding from traditional sources. A highlight of the hospital was to see how they use their EMR system combined with their Patient Portal, mobile devices and ebar. This enables patients to measure relevant clinical parameters on their own and upload them directly in the EMR of the doctor and making them available for review almost immediately and on the spot. We look forward to presenting the team with their award at a HIMSS Europe event this year.”
The EMR Adoption Model (EMRAM) is an eight stage system that measures digital maturity in a hospital, with 0 the lowest and Stage 7 the highest level. Achieving EMRAM Stage 6 reflects that the hospital is well on the way to achieving a fully paperless patient record environment and using Information Technology in a smart way to improve care quality, safety and efficiency. There are only three hospitals in Europe with a current and valid Stage 7 certification.
